Rust Prevention and Rust Proofing

Rust is a disease of iron and steel. Rust or Iron oxide is formed through a chemical reaction between oxygen and moisture. This oxidation makes the metal weak so it is easy to break and eventually result to damage.

In today's world, iron is commonly used in the alloy known as steel . Thus, rusting usually refers to the corrosion of steel. Rust is a common concern for all of us due to the fact that metal has found such a large-scale usage in our day-to-day lives. All of us know that rust is detrimental to the health of a metal object.

The first time that many of us are aware of rust is when we see that worrying red scarring or bubbling appear on our vehicles. Rust is most commonly thought of as the problem, but actually it is a symptom. The real problem is moisture/water penetration. Outdoor elements, including extremes of temperature and humidity in the environment can trigger this problem.

Therefore, we should always focus on preventing the iron parts from being exposed to air or moisture.
Rust prevention is vital in protecting valuable structures, tools and machinery.

Lubricants, rust removers, and waxes for rust prevention and proofing will get your tools clean and rust free and then keep it that way. You can try applying specific rust prevention product before storing your metal items.

It should be obvious that rust prevention is the best way to keep your metal in good condition. Start with constant inspection. Thoroughly clean the item first to remove any salt, grime or debris clinging on the metal surface.

Remember that iron oxide actually protects the substructure somewhat. If you can get it dry, really dry, and then seal over the oxide so that air (O2) cannot continue the reaction, so much the better.

Steel or iron is dipped in zinc, which then forms a physical barrier against corrosion. Zinc-plated towing products such as hitch balls, hand winches , jacks and couplers are great for watercraft applications or humid climates. Zinc is a bit more electrochemically reactive compared to metal. It reduces rust by oxidizing alone as opposed to iron.

Corrosion of aluminium is different from steel or iron , in that aluminium oxide formed on the surface of aluminium metal forms a protective, corrosion resistant coating, a process known as passivation . Stainless steel similarly resists rusting by forming a passivation layer of chromium(III) oxide .

The predominant locations were the bottom seams on doors, the front seam on hoods, the lower seam on trunk lids, fender attachment points and petrol filler door areas. The front edges of hoods and trunks are common places for rust to appear because they are the most likely areas of a vehicle to suffer paint damage and because water that falls on the vehicle runs down to the edges of the hood and trunk.

One of the most important aspects of industrial rust prevention is inhibiting rust with the use of an industrial coating which is an important aspect of the process. Products used for industrial coating provide a protective cover to safeguard expensive machinery and increase its longevity.

Rust Proofing

Rust proofing is a combination of undercoating and internal coating. Mostly rust proofing is applied while building the car and the new cars are built with very good rust proofing but the olds cars can rust easily because it  traps dirt and moisture and add to the risk of rusting.

A rustproofed vehicle has a higher resale or trade-in value. Rustproofing can be a good investment if you don’t change cars often. It can even add one year to the life of the automobile.

Rust proofing is done by oil spray, Armour plate, leather protection, upholstery guard and also by using a good exterior car wash and shampoo. As it is an oil-based product, it is not considered a fire hazard.

When choosing a newer rustproofing process, it is important to consider which rustproofing methods have already been taken with that automobile, piece of machinery or gear in the past therefore making sure compatibility is actually not an issue. Think about: Just how long do I want to maintain my automobile or chunk of equipment? Must I opt for permanent or yearly remedies? What are the best treatments for my vehicle?

Applying primer and rust resistant paints are effective ways of rustproofing. A primer and rust resistant paint acts as an immediate buffer between the iron surface and the outside environment.

Any place on the vehicle where two pieces of metal are joined is a likely place to detect rust. These joints hold moisture, salt, dirt and other corrosive particles that promote rust.

Rustproofing should never be done in humid weather or when surfaces are damp. Areas that give off heat must not be treated with the compound.

It takes one or two afternoons to do some degree of rustproofing instead of having to deal with rusted bolts snapping and causing you or someone else's trouble down the road.

To prevent rust, all steel must be sealed from the elements by paint or some other type of metal sealer. All rust that already has occured should be treated as early as possible. Remember, even if you have removed rust and repainted, etc, don't expect the job to last. Rust is like cancer on a bike, it just keeps coming back no matter how well you treat it.

Rust Prevention Products by Rust Bullet

Many methods using rust prevention products have been tried to treat rust but all of them are unable to provide a long-term solution to the rust problem and each one has their individual shortcomings. Until now with the introduction of Rust Bullet it’s a product offered at www.RustBullet.com. Rust Bullet provides a long-term solution to this cumbersome problem.

Rust Bullet is a one-step urethane based rust prevention product that is easy to apply and makes rust repair affordable. This unique rust inhibitor product provides a corrosion protection armor tuff coating to the treated metal objects. This rust corrosion prevention product uses patented new technology to stop rust and corrosion. The Rust Bullet application process requires very minimal surface preparation while reducing the rust repair and rust removal cost.

Besides acting as a rust remover it has other added functions, it can be used as a fire retardant coating, or a mold encapsulant coating, and a garage floor coating to protect concrete. These rust prevention products are guaranteed to provide protection from rust for as long as ten years and are thus a long-term solution to the rust problem.
